ROLLING STONES
COVERS PAGE

You will find here a selection - as eclectic as possible - of albums of Stones' covers published around the world.
Some of the songs are available on many different releases, especially the "classics" recorded by Rod Stewart, Ike and Tina Turner etc.
but some of these albums also offer some rare, funny, weird or hard to find covers.
You will also find here some Stones members themselves covering Stones songs with other musicians.

Depending on the countries/markets, there are CDs with different titles and artwork offering the same material.
Starting such a collecting means that you are ready to own a song several times.

Anyway, the material found on the CDs listed below and on all the available compilations only represent a small part of all the Stones covers available on many artists' own official or bootleg recordings.

A compilation of Jagger/Richards songs, including some that were written for other artists, some of them never recorded by the Rolling Stones themselves.
Songs written or co-written by Brian Jones and Bill Wyman are also to be found here.
Among the featured artists : George Bean, Marianne Faithfull, Bobbie Miller, The End, The Mighty Avengers.

Connection 1963-66

It features 20 songs, most of them written and/or backed by members of the Rolling Stones.

Cover You : A tribute to the Rolling Stones
1998 - Universal Music Special Markets

This compilation has a lot of similarities with the recently released Paint It Black (EMI 2005 - see below)
14 tracks, including It's Not Easy, by Charlie Sexton and Ron Wood.

Paint It Black
2005 - EMI

This is the most recent Stones covers compilation.

19 songs, most of them covers made by notorious artists like David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Bryan Ferry etc.
Nothing really new, but also a few rarer songs from Exodus, Grand Funk Railroad, The Quireboys and Gilby Clarke.

Satisfaction - Covers & Cookies of the Stones
2005 - Harmless Recordings

One of the most interesting covers compilation of the recent years.
Including songs from The Meters, PP Arnold, Ananda Shankar, and a cover of Gimme Shelter by Merry Clayton, who sung on the original Stones recording.

1CD of original versions (15 songs)
1CD of remixes of the same songs, except Honky Tonk Woman by The Meters, only featured on the 1st CD.

The Rolling Bidochons - Sales Gueules
1991 - Deltamedia

14 songs.
Les Bidochons are a french parodic band, and the Stones were pastiched by them just like other bands, including the Beatles and the Sex Pistols.
The trick was to put "funny" french lyrics (no translations) on the music. The album title Some Girls has been translated in Sales Gueules, which means Ugly faces.
The album has been re-issued in digipack in 2004 with 3 bonus tracks.

Bossa n' Stones
2005 - PMB

12 songs.
An argentinian CD of various artists performing Stones songs in an electro/bossa way.
Very original and refreshing.

Reggae Rocks - A Reggae Tribute To The Rolling Stoens
2002 - Madacy Entertainment

12 songs.
A compilation of reggae-style Stones songs.
Including, amo,g others Start Me Up by Toots and the Maytals, and a great version of Time Is on My Side by The Gladiators.
Also featuring Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse and many more.

Not my favorite cover CD, but some good stuff.

The Rolling Stones Songbook
2004 - Decca/Universal

This CD is the re-issue of the Andrew Oldham Orchestra LP released in 1966.
11 instrumental Stones covers.
Feat. Heart of Stone, which was sampled in The Verve's successful single Bitter Sweet Symphony.
For completists only.

The Rolling Stones Revisited
2006 - Les Inrockuptibles

In June 2006, the french music magasine called
Les Inrockuptibles released a very nice special issue dedicated to the Rolling Stones, featuring this 9-track CD.
A few rare songs, like Claudine Longuet's version of Let's Spend The Night Together.

Opium Jukebox - Sticky Bhangra
2002 -

10 instrumental covers played in a very original oriental/indian way.
This CD was released in the US, and has almost no info concerning the performers.
This very exotic CD is the most original Stones cover album I found. Could almost be played in presence of Stones haters without being noticed ;o)

Ultra Rare Trax Vol.4
1998 - German Rolling Stone magazine

Subtitled Sing this all together and see what happens, this CD was included in the June 1998 issue of the german Rolling Stone.
16 songs, most of them covered by "new bands" from the end of the 90ies.
Worth mentionning here : a very interesting version of Might As Well Get Juiced performed by A Subtle Plague.

Symphonic Music of the Rolling Stones
1994 - BMG Classics / RCA Victor

11 songs by the London Symphonic Orchestra.
Vocal parts recorded by the London Childern Choir and the London Voices.

Available thru the years in various countries with different artworks.

Symphonic Rolling Stones
1992 - QED

10 songs recorded by a german Philarmonic Orchestra and a Big Band.No vocals.
You probably won't be listening to this CD regularily, but it can be fun to put it as background music and watch people's face when they finally realize what they are listening to.
Again, different releases and different artworks over the years.
