| The
original setlist and
the soundcheck access wristband
For my second Prince concert, my friend Jean-François, a member of Prince's fan club, got us 2 tickets with access to the soundcheck. It was weird to see Prince and his band on stage, quiet, waiting for the audience to enter, but that's exactly what happened. The rehearsals were really intimate, and Prince was talking a lot with the few people in there. He made an excellent imitation of Macy Gray, and spent most of the time on the piano. The soundcheck went on for approx. 1 fantastic hour which, of course, seemed too short to all of us. The show that followed was wonderful. The Zenith was sold out, and the audience's response was really good. Prince played an amazing version of Purple Rain, which he introduced as a song played for the ones who never saw him live before. Other highlights were Xenophobia, 1+1+1=3 , and Pass the Peas, with an excellent Maceo Parker. Maceo and the very sexy Candy Dulfer gave to some songs a really new dimension. The whole show was fantastic, Prince and his group playing many different styles of music, from funk to rap, including some jazzy stuff, and a couple of Santana-like guitar solos. This 21/2 hour show proved once again how much this little man MUST be seen on stage ! Once the show ended, we rushed to the Bataclan to see the aftershow...
