Nov. 18 2004 : "Like a Rolling Stone" greatest song of all time.

Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone has been elected best song ever in a poll organized by the american Rolling Stone magazine.
The list was compiled by a panel of 172 artists including  Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello, KD Lang, Art Garfunkel, Berry Gordy (founder of the Motown), and Ozzy Osbourne.
This song, which is regularily covered by the Rolling Stones during their concerts since 1995, is followed by a Rolling Stones song :
(I can't get no) Satisfaction. John Lennon's Imagine is coming 3rd.

The Rolling Stones have a total of 14 songs in the list of 500, including Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Women, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Ruby Tuesday et Brown Sugar
They are 2nd, right after the Beatles (23 songs), and are followed by Bob Dylan (12 songs).

A similar list had already been made by Rolling Stone back in 1989.
At this time, (I can't get no) Satisfaction had been elected best single of the past 25 years, followed by Like a Rolling Stone !

The complete list will be published by the U.S. Rolling Stone magazine in a special issue available tomorrow.

The new Wembley Stadium should be part of the next Rolling Stones World Tour in 2006.
Even though the information has not been confirmed yet, it seems that the Stones' schedule given by Michael Cohl in october 2003  is still up-to-date : a 18-month break followed by a new record and a new (and farewell?) tour in 2005 (USA) and 2006 (Asia-Europe).

The Stones would be the first band to play at the new stadium, just as they were the first band to rock the Stade de France in Paris in 1998.
For more info about the new Wembley Stadium, click HERE

Ronnie played on Stay With Me, Every Picture Tells a Story, You Wear It Well, Losing You and I'd Rather Go Blind, Maggie May, Having a Party/Twisting the Night Away,  and Ooh La La.

Here's the tracklisting of LIVE LICKS, the new Rolling Stones double CD set recorded during the 2002-2003 Licks World Tour.

Disc 1 : Street Fighting Man  -  It's Only Rock'n Roll  -  Don't Stop  -  Tumbling Dice  -  You Got Me Rocking  -  Start Me Up  -  Brown Sugar  -  Paint It Black  -
Honky Tonk Women  -  Gimme Shelter  -  Jumping Jack Flash  -  You Can't Always Get What You Want  -  Slipping Away  -  Happy  -  Satisfaction  -
Sympathy For The Devil
Disc 2 :  Can't You Hear Me Knocking  -  Live With Me  -  Everybody Needs Somebody To Love  -  That's How Strong My Love Is  -  Let It Bleed  -  Worried About You - I Just Wanna Make Love To You  -  Before They Make Me Run  -  The Nearness Of You  -  Hand Of Fate  -  Monkey Man  -  Wild Horses  -  Love Train  -  Heartbreaker  - Star Star  -  All Down The Line  -  Parachute Woman   (souce : IORR)

The only thing we can be sure about today is the source of Parachute Woman, which was played only once during the tour at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston Sep. 8, 2002.
Unluckily for the fans, the 33-song list is not featuring many rare performances from the tour, making this record a pretty "easy" compilation designed to tease as much people as possible. Ain't too proud to beg , The Worst, and Heart of Stone would have been great choices that would have given more interest to the CDs when compared to performances featured in Four Flicks.
Expected release date : Sep 27  2004.

June 16 :   Money Money Money : The frustration of the french Metallica fans

The Parc des Princes show scheduled on June 23 in Paris will be the ONLY show of both American and European tours that won’t be available to download (at a cost of approx. USD 10) from Metallica’s official webpage.
According to the band the reason is the fees asked by the venue to authorize the band to record its performance.

If this information is true, we all can blame the stadium’s management and the city of Paris for their greedy behavior.

On the other hand, Metallica could have made a gesture and “offer” the show as a tribute to their french fans. Unluckily, it looks like the band is broke because of Napster, and it’s really sad to see that they can’t afford not to earn money on the downloading of one particular show.
I really hope that both parts will try to find an agreement during the few days left before June 23...
